Fatal Smile: World domination

Hailing from Sweden, Fatal Smile presents us with their third release of 80’s influenced hard rock and metal entitled, “World Domination”. While I’m no connoisseur when it comes to this genre, there are few releases out there that I do like. Skid Row’s first one as well as Whitesnake’s self titled release from ’87 are pure gold (except for Whitesnake’s ballads – pure shit) that still get played to this day. “World Domination” is nowhere near those releases in terms of quality but it isn’t terrible either.
There is some serious Whitesnake influence happening here and when I did a search on these guys to get some background info, sure enough, Whitesnake is listed as an influence along with Black Sabbath and Metallica. They do have a bit of that Sabbath groove happening on some of the slower tracks like “No Tomorrow” but when it comes to Metallica being listed as an influence, I can’t help but think – what the fuck? There could very well be a “Load” or “Re-Load” or, oh my fuck, a “St. Anger” influence here that I’m missing but I can guarantee you nothing here is going to crush your skull like “Leper Messiah” will.
Fatal Smile isn’t doing anything you haven’t heard a million times before but they pull off the hard rock/metal thing fairly well. The album has it’s share of catchy riffs, huge background vocals and they can write some decent songs too. I’m sure I would enjoy these guys a lot more in a live atmosphere though. Imagine the smell of beer, urine and hairspray in a smoke filled shit bar with these guys being the house band. That night would reek of good times and you just know that one of your buddies would end up vomiting from excessive amounts of alcohol.
As far as hard rock/metal goes this is surprisingly not bad and if the thought of another Whitesnake release coming out gives you a stiffy, this should tide you over until then.
